New Two-story, 30,000 SF Public Safety Facility
Village of South Elgin New Public Safety Center
Lamp Incorporated provided construction management services for a new two‑story, 30,000‑square‑foot Public Safety Center serving as the headquarters for the South Elgin Police Department and a central hub for community engagement.
Constructed within a busy, fully developed area surrounded by businesses, parks, and residential neighborhoods, the facility replaces an outdated 6,000 SF station originally built in 1997. The new building was designed to accommodate a growing population and expanding police force, while enhancing the Village’s ability to serve the community.
Located directly across from the original station, the project was strategically planned to maintain continuous operations, with the former facility subsequently renovated for adaptive reuse by the Village – the former facility’s adaptive reuse project was also managed by Lamp.
The new Public Safety Center features a wide range of modern, purpose-built spaces, including locker rooms, a fitness center, and dedicated offices for social services staff. A versatile multi-purpose room supports Village board meetings and community events, reinforcing the facility’s role as both a public safety hub and civic resource.
Specialized components include an emergency operations command center, evidence processing areas, and a “Scully Room” designed to accommodate ambulance access and temporary animal holding. The project also incorporates a Veterans Memorial Plaza, providing a meaningful space for the community to honor local veterans through engraved paver installations.
The completed facility delivers a modern, secure, and highly functional public safety environment, supporting 24/7 police operations while strengthening community connection and engagement.
The Village of South Elgin created a page dedicated to the new facility–you can learn more at the Village of South Elgin’s website: VOSE Public Safety Facility
