McHenry Area Public Library – Expansion and Renovation
McHenry Area Public Library Expansion and Renovation
Lamp Incorporated provided construction management services for the transformative expansion and renovation of the McHenry Area Public Library, creating a modern, flexible, and community-focused destination for learning, collaboration, and research. The project expanded the library into an adjacent warehouse facility and included a 12,000-square-foot addition, maximizing existing assets while supporting the library’s long-term growth and evolving community needs.
The renovation introduced a wide range of new spaces designed to enhance visitor experiences and community engagement, including meeting rooms, study rooms, offices, a conference room, and a dedicated genealogy room. Existing library areas were comprehensively modernized, featuring upgrades to the computer lab, circulation desk, front lobby, children’s area, and staff workspaces to improve accessibility, functionality, and operational efficiency.
The project encompassed significant structural modifications, building envelope improvements, and the installation of new interior building systems. Site upgrades included stormwater management infrastructure, utility improvements, new paving, sidewalks, and enhanced accessibility features. Through strategic phasing, careful coordination, and proactive construction management, Lamp successfully delivered a renovated public library that offers expanded programming opportunities, improved user amenities, and a welcoming environment for patrons of all ages.
