Celebrating Community Builders at the Inaugural IPPYS

On September 10, Lamp was honored to serve as an Award Ambassador Sponsor for the inaugural Illinois Park Professionals Yearly Soirée (IPPYS), hosted by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA).
The event brought together park and recreation professionals from across Illinois for an afternoon of celebration, connection, recognition, and fun. Most importantly, it shined a spotlight on the people whose work helps create stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities every day.
Recognizing the People Behind Community Impact
Park districts and recreation agencies play an essential role in community life. While residents often enjoy parks, trails, sports fields, playgrounds, recreation centers, programs, and special events, it is easy to overlook the dedicated professionals who make those experiences possible.
The IPPYS created an opportunity to celebrate those individuals and organizations, recognizing contributions that ranged from leadership and innovation to creativity, teamwork, and community service.
One of the most memorable aspects of the event was the stories behind the awards. Attendees heard about initiatives that improved safety, expanded access to arts and recreation opportunities, strengthened workplace culture, and brought communities together in meaningful ways. Some stories brought laughter, while others served as powerful reminders of the positive impact park and recreation professionals have on the lives of others.
The Importance of Recognition
Recognition programs like the IPPYS do more than celebrate accomplishments. They create opportunities to share ideas, highlight success stories, and acknowledge the everyday efforts that often happen behind the scenes.
Equally important are the nominators. Awards programs only exist because people take the time to recognize the work of their peers, colleagues, teams, and organizations. By celebrating one another’s achievements, professionals help elevate the entire industry and encourage continued excellence.
The spirit of the IPPYS reflected exactly that. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and genuine, bringing together professionals who share a commitment to serving their communities.
Building More Than Facilities
At Lamp, we often say that we don’t just build buildings; we help build communities.
Many of our projects serve as gathering places for recreation, wellness, education, and connection. We have seen firsthand how thoughtfully planned parks, recreation centers, and community facilities can improve quality of life and create lasting benefits for residents.
That is why supporting the inaugural IPPYS was such a natural fit for our team. The event celebrated the people whose vision, leadership, and dedication help transform facilities and programs into meaningful community experiences.
Looking Ahead
We extend our congratulations to all nominees and award recipients and our thanks to IPRA for creating such a meaningful event.
The inaugural IPPYS showcased the passion, creativity, and commitment that define Illinois’ park and recreation professionals. We were grateful to be part of this first celebration and look forward to watching the event continue to grow in the years ahead.
Because when communities take the time to recognize those who serve them, everyone benefits.
